Abstract
During the pontificate of Leo X the professional group of Rome goldsmiths was rapidly changing. However, he stood closely linked to a small group of well known artists, who had been already active for the previous popes. The fortunes of these artists depended much more on the creation of plentiful revenues than on their professional activities. As for the other goldsmiths, there is mention of their customers and of their regular activities, not least the purchase and sale of precious metals. A line of research is proposed (concentrate on identifying non-work relationships between goldsmiths and the main ecclesiastical city institutions), whose first results are shown hereI documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
